Welcome to your “place like home...”

Being away from home and family can be difficult and a little scary, especially when you are undergoing new treatments. During your stay at The Children’s Inn, we do all that we can to provide a worry-free environment where children and their families can relax, enjoy each other, meet other families and have fun!

The Children’s Inn at NIH is a hospital hospitality house that offers a variety of services while also providing mutual support to families during their time of need. One of the best things about The Children’s Inn is the bond that you make with other children and families.

“Thank you!!! We have enjoyed our stay at The Children’s Inn. We appreciate all the time and effort that you all put into making this a place where families can relax and enjoy each other. All the extra little touches really make a big difference. Our son loves it here!  Thank you.”
—The McLaughlin Family

“The Inn has been something our children look forward to every time we visit-which has been many times now…It has always been a pleasure and a convenience.”

The Inn is undergoing some exciting renovations of the kitchens and bathrooms in the A,B,C & D wings. This includes new lighting, floors, cabinets, furniture, and counter tops in the kitchen and dining areas and new heat pumps and updated bathrooms in the resident rooms.

Maintaining a safe, clean and healthy environment remains our top priority. You will notice we have installed thick plastic sheeting materials to control all construction dust, airborne particles and odors. Construction hours will be limited to 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to minimize noise and disruption during your stay.

The construction consists of two phases: Phase 1, recently completed, involved an upgrade to the A/B kitchen and resident rooms in the A/B quadrants.  Phase 2 began in October 2013 and includes the C/D kitchen and resident rooms in the C/D quadrants. In conjunction with the C/D renovations, we will also be renovating the Kids Computer Room and adding new beds to each resident room. This construction is set to end by mid-May, 2014.

The art gallery and part of the light corridor are closed for the duration of the project to provide contractor access to the D quad. CDE patio is closed for duration of the project

The playroom will be closed for as an yet undetermined period of time. Every effort will be made to reopen it as soon as possible. In the meantime access to the playground is through the upper living room, or, for those who cannot manage steps, exit through the AB patio door and follow the path around. Some of the the playroom equipment will be relocated to other areas of the building.

We will do our best to provide accommodations for all families during this time at The Inn, The Woodmont House, Cloister Apartments on the NIH campus and with partnering hotels, if necessary. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Manager on Duty at 1-800-644-4660.
