FACILITIES AND RESIDENT SERVICES

Resident Services/Family Programming-

  • Evaluated The Inn’s programs, in partnership with Samueli Institute, to ensure an optimal healing environment
  • Developed and implemented a Bereavement Program
  • Expanded Go Green Program, including:
    • Continuing to provide information in resident newsletter
    • Secured donation of reusable grocery bags for families
    • Installed touch-screen solar learning educational kiosk
  • Initiated grocery store gift card program to respond to families’ increased financial needs
  • Implemented programming, with the completion of our Reflection Space, to focus on spiritual wellness, including access to:
    • Bilingual relaxation sessions
    • Interfaith religious services
    • Spiritual resources
  • Opened multi-media Learning Center to provide educational opportunities for residents, including: a Hatch Imagination Station, Smart Board, implementation of education program – EducateINN, and Hopecam partnership
  • Increased number of family programs to 661 – a 19-percent increase and increased number of residents attending programs to 5224 – a 23-percent increase
  • Welcomed therapeutic dog, Vi Mars, to The Inn family
  • Implemented comprehensive music program, including:
    • Open music studio
    • Additions to our instrument collection
    • Integration of music into many therapeutic programs
  • Expanded international and bilingual programs, including:
    • Monthly international family social nights
    • Bilingual yoga classes
    • Monthly bilingual family support meetings
Facilities-
  • Completed renovations of Game Room and Reflection Space
  • Expanded the therapeutic garden
  • Purchased new mini-van to meet the increased transportation needs of families
  • Improved safety of Inn parking lot
  • Coordinated NIH installation of state-of-the-art fire alarm system
  • Completed landscaping around Sport Court
  • Collaborated with NIH to complete “Go Green” building upgrades, including installation of energy producing photovoltaic cells on the roof
 
WOODMONT

  • Purchased transitional home for residents who exceed The Inn’s 120-day stay policy yet still need treatment at the NIH
  • Created eligibility criteria for residents
  • Established staffing and development plans and public relations initiatives
  • Conducted a series of corporate tours and held a special event at the house for prospective donors and key constituencies

VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH
  • Conducted large-scale volunteer appreciation event
  • Conducted first phase of a volunteer opinion survey
  • Trained and recruited 31 new volunteers
  • Developed and implemented a food inventory system
  • Produced a fashion show, including volunteers, staff, staff family members and residents showcasing a $10,000 clothing donation
  • Developed in-kind donor recognition photo display
  • Hosted two-day Sprint Racing event to provide entertainment for our families and thank members of the community
  • Developed monthly Thoughtful Treasures community workshops to increase community involvement and awareness
  • Formed Community Outreach Team to serve as Inn ambassadors
INFORMATION TECNOLOGY
  • Provided closed captioning and hosting for The Inn’s new promotional video
  • Upgraded Game Room with new displays and wide-screen TV with surround sound
  • Created wireless access points throughout the building and outside public areas, including each resident room
  • Initiated new contract with Verizon for FIOS throughout The Inn
  • Installed Skype Video Conferencing and trained families on use to facilitate communication with loved ones in home states and countries
DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
  • Increased use of social networking to support fundraising
  • Re-established The Inn as an active member of the Combined Federal Campaign
  • Created the framework to receive a major corporate endowment pledge
  • Formed a work group to sustain and grow AFCEA’s efforts tied to supporting the mission of The Inn
  • Held major fundraisers and special events such as: AFCEA, Second Annual Children’s Inn Golf INNvitational, HIMSS, Ribbon Cutting of Sport Court, and Sports Ambassador Event
  • Completed new Inn video
HUMAN RESOURCES
  • Developed Board Orientation Program
  • Created and implemented operational Crisis Action Training
  • Developed and implemented a Wellness Program for Inn staff
FINANCE
  • Linked accounting system to donation data management system to allow seamless integration of data
  • Worked with FileMaker developers (Booz Allen) to allow the new reservation system to produce accurate statistical reports
