Young Ambassadors CouncilThe Young Ambassadors Council (YAC) was founded to increase opportunities for individuals in their 20s, 30s, and 40s to get involved with The Children's Inn at NIH. The YAC offers a variety of ways to support The Inn's mission, including volunteer projects, community outreach initiatives, social events, and much more! Are you INN?YAC members help The Children's Inn at NIH to provide "A Place Like Home" for seriously ill children participating in leading-edge medical research studies at the National Institutes of Health. Do you want to join a group of energetic professionals involved in a great community organization? The Children's Inn is looking for committed volunteers to join efforts with the Young Ambassadors Council to raise awareness of The Inn's mission. If you would like to receive updates from the Young Ambassadors Council, including event invitations and information about volunteer opportunities, please contact Lauren Conte at contele@mail.nih.gov. YAC Volunteers Around Town
The Inn's Young Ambassadors participated in several exciting volunteer projects this fall. Here are some highlights:
Family Dinner: Young Ambassador volunteers cooked and served a Family Dinner for Inn residents on Sunday, September 25. Families were raving about the delicious cornbread prepared by YAC member Kate Winseck!
Come Back to Bethesda 2011: YAC volunteers helped to staff The Inn's community outreach booth at Come Back to Bethesda 2011, passing out balloons, leading kids and families in fun games, and answering questions about The Inn's mission and programs.
The Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show: The Inn had a booth at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6. Young Ambassadors signed up for 4 hour shifts throughout the weekend to be at the table, answering questions about The Inn and raising funds to support our Kitchen and Dining Room Renovation Project.
Fundraising Event at Eden Nightclub
The Young Ambassadors Council partnered with the 30s and 40s Going Out Group for a fundraising event on Friday, Aug. 12. The happy hour was held at Eden nightclub, and 80% of the proceeds benefited The Children's Inn at NIH. YAC volunteers signed up for shifts to help collect donations at the door, sign up guests for email updates, and give out prizes. By the end of the night they had raised $1,500 for The Inn. The Children's Inn and the Young Ambassadors Council would like to thank the 30s & 40s Going Out Group for inviting us to partner with them on this fabulous event. We're looking forward to more fun nights out in the future.
Kick-Off BBQ
The Young Ambassadors Council would like to thank everyone who attended our Kick-Off BBQ on July 13. More than 60 young professionals came to The Inn to enjoy food and drink, mix and mingle with Inn residents, take tours of The Children's Inn, and learn about the Young Ambassadors Council. A good time was had by all. We're looking forward to seeing you at future YAC events!
