Making a reservation?

Please read this information carefully before making your reservation:

  • Make reservations under the patient’s name, not the caregiver’s name.
  • If you live in the US, you can arrive at the Inn no more than 24 hours before your first appointment and stay no more than 24 hours after your final appointment.
  • If you’re an international patient, you can arrive at the Inn no more than 48 hours before your first appointment and stay no more than 48 hours after your final appointment.

    • If you are a patient of NIAMS, NIMH or NIAIID, your medical team must make your reservation.
    • If your diagnosis is NHGRI-Periodic Fever Syndrome, NEI-Uveitis, or Ocular Immunology, your medical team must make your reservation.

Requesting an Isolation Room

To help keep everyone safe at The Children's Inn at NIH, your medical team will let us know if you need to be on contact or respiratory isolation during your stay.

Contact Isolation
You may be placed on contact isolation for certain conditions, such as C. difficile, MRSA, VRE, ESBL, or cystic fibrosis.

Respiratory Isolation
We are currently able to accommodate respiratory isolation for rhinovirus only.

What to Do Next
If your medical team has told you that you need isolation, please complete the isolation request form as soon as possible. Approval typically takes 24–48 hours and may take longer if submitted over a weekend.

We’re here to support you and your family every step of the way. If this applies to you, please call a Resident Services Manager at 301-496-5672 with any questions or to begin the application process.

About Isolation Rooms

Patients can stay in one of our four isolation rooms or in community apartments with their families.   Each isolation room has two double beds, a personal bathroom, a small kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator, sink and cabinet space, a television with a Roku including Netflix and Disney+, a dresser, sink and table. Our apartments are fully furnished and can accommodate up to six family members.

Isolation Room Safetey Requirements

When you check in, you and your family members will learn about hand hygiene and safety at The Inn.  You’ll sign The Children’s Inn at NIH IsolateINN family agreement, agreeing to follow these rules and exceptions:

  • The patient must stay in the isolation room at all times, except when exiting and entering the building.
  • Family members, including the patient, must follow proper hand hygiene guidelines before exiting and reentering their isolation room.
  • Caregivers and other family members may use common spaces at The Inn, remembering to wash their hands and follow safety procedures.
  • Caregivers and other family members may use The Inn’s common kitchens and prepare food for the patient to be eaten in their room.
  • There is a special laundry service provided at no cost for our isolation families. Please bring enough clothing for approximately one week.
